The “pneumatic exoskeleton” term has recently been used to refer to the action provided by the GMOVE-SUIT. This is the active compression system designed to help people with musculoskeletal disorders and/or reduced physical capacity.
Useful in daily life to relieve pain, to accompany someone in the execution of household tasks or walking, the “pneumatic exoskeleton” can also be used during training sessions with the therapist.
The postural system
The human body has an informational system that allows to fight against gravity, to situate itself in relation to its environment and to guarantee a certain balance; the postural system. This system receives information sent by muscles and joints, analyzes it and sends an adequate response in order to keep the balance (homeostasis) of its internal and external environment.
Posture and motor control, a complex interaction between the central nervous system and the muscles allowing voluntary movement, are affected by sensory receptors (exteroceptive and proprioceptive receptors). The brain will process the data from these different receptors and return an appropriate response, for a correct adaptation of our posture.
Looking in a mirror gives an idea of the posture, but professional advice is more effective. Spotting pain and tension in the body is important to avoid amplifying these negative effects.
To improve the posture, a combination of relaxation and strengthening of the back and shoulder muscles is recommended.
How does GMOVE-SUIT improve the posture?
For certain people, only the recommendations given as mentioned above may be sufficient. For people with musculoskeletal disorders and/or reduced physical capacities, the management is quite different.
As described previously, posture is influenced by sensory receptors and motor control. This control is the complex interaction between the central nervous system and the muscles. If it is affected, the information will not be properly processed and the response will be inadequate to ensure balance.
The body functions as a pyramid system, if the foundations are not strong enough the rest may collapse. GMOVE-SUIT allows the base to be strengthened, and though improvements for the legs and the general balance.
By having the lower limbs reinforced thanks to the active compression GMOVE-SUIT , the plantar and proprioceptive inputs are increased. Body images of its own position are improved, the ligaments and joints give better information.
GMOVE-SUIT acts as a “pneumatic exoskeleton” to support and maintain a good posture of patients with proprioceptive disorders. Through compression, the sensory receptors are stimulated and will allow the processing of messages from the nervous system between the brain and the muscles. Postural maintenance and motor control will be improved.
